Enlightenment
Marched to forward places
He believed to be so divine.
Leaving behind a wife, a son
And a royal palace,so fine.
Waded through swollen, agitated streams
Combed forests and wild mountain screams.
In search of peace profound,tranquility
And the Enlightenment of his dreams.
Went through austerities or meditation
Fastings and penaces without hesitation.
He would eat , but just a few rice grains
Hunger reduced the body to a skeletal frame.
The soul and the body, both pained,
His breath was going to be drained.
All this endured, but what he gained?
Nothing of worth was so far attained .
One bright day, he opened his eyes
After deep meditation and trance.
There was a beautiful royal woman
With a bowl of food on yon side of fence.
Enlightenment struck and body cried
"What I shall gain if of hunger I died ?”
He accepted the food with gratitude to relish
Laws of nature are a path to eternal bliss.
